Berbagai dinamika yang ada di lingkungan kerja yang semakin kompleks dewasa ini khususnya yang menyangkut permasalahan SDM menjadi perhatian tersendiri bagi para pelaku usaha, dimana SDM merupakan bagian dari organisasi usaha itu sendiri. Dalam upaya agar setiap orang dapat mencapai sasaran kerjanya, maka setiap manajer/supervisor berkewajiban untuk membantu setiap orang dalam timnya dengan cara memberikan coaching dan konseling.

Implementasi terhadap metode coaching yang tepat dalam hal ini diyakini dapat memperbaiki dan meningkatkan kemampuan dan kapasitas setiap orang sehingga berhasil mencapai sasaran kerjanya secara optimal. Sedangkan untuk meningkatkan efektifitas perilaku dan sikap mental pekerja agar sesuai dengan kebutuhan pekerjaannya, maka diperlukan metode Counseling. Konseling dilakukan apabila setelah coaching dilakukan tidak terjadi perubahan atau peningkatan kinerja dari bawahannya. Konseling lebih mengarah pada aspek psikologis dari individual, sehingga untuk melaksanakan konseling seorang manajer/supervisor perlu dibekali dengan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan untuk memahami kebutuhan-kebutuhan psikologis tersebut.

Kemampuan untuk mengkombinasikan coaching & counseling dengan tepat pada akhirnya menjadi skill harus dimiliki oleh para supervisor dan manajer. Dengan penguasaan tiga skill manajer dalam coaching & counseling meliputi skills mendengarkan (ketika menemukan masalah), skill mendefinisikan masalah (agar menemukan penyebab sebenarnya) dan skill memfasilitasi

penemuan solusi.

Tugas manajer ialah membantu mengoptimalkan sumber daya bagi bawahannya untuk menyelesaikan masalah atau mencapai targetnya. Kompetensi apa saja yang dibutuhkan dan bagaimana melakukan hal-hal tersebut akan dibahas dalam pelatihan ini.
